Mr. Markel is an associate at Roberts Markel Weinberg Butler Hailey PC and practices in the firm’s general civil litigation, directors and officers, labor and employment, and corporate practice areas. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University in 2007. In May of 2010, he earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law, graduating summa cum laude (highest honors), and earning a certificate in Transactional Law Practice. While at South Texas, Mr. Markel was an active member of the South Texas Law Review, publishing his comment Efficacy of Contractual Solutions in the Interstate Enforcement of Covenants Not to Compete, 51 S. Tex. L. Rev. 783 (2010). He was also a Dean’s Scholar and a member of the Order of the Lytae. Mr. Markel also received CALI Excellence Awards for many substantive law courses, including: Civil Procedure, Property I, Torts II, Employment Law, ERISA, and Texas Pretrial Procedure. During the summer of 2008, he interned for the Honorable Bankruptcy Judge Jeff Bohm in the Southern District of Texas, Houston Division.

Immediately after graduating from South Texas, Mr. Markel clerked for the Honorable Magistrate Judge Stephen Wm. Smith, in the Southern District of Texas, Houston Division. There he assisted Judge Smith in researching for and writing various memorandum orders. Mr. Markel also assisted judicial interns during the summer, helping them hone their legal research and writing skills.
