Frank Carroll III is the head of the firm’s appellate law group, and maintains an active trial and appellate practice. Mr. Carroll represents corporations and individuals in a wide-variety of disputes, including commercial litigation, complex real estate disputes, catastrophic personal injury, and professional liability defense.
Mr. Carroll has tried nearly two-dozen cases to verdict as lead counsel, obtaining substantial verdicts representing both plaintiffs and defendants. He has prosecuted over 50 appeals—many creating new law in Texas—ranging from oil and gas contract interpretation to defining the permissible bounds of new technologies. He has presented oral argument in numerous courts of appeal, including the Texas Supreme Court. His appellate practice covers real estate, commercial litigation, jurisdictional issues, statutory interpretation, and constitutional law.
He is the editor-in-chief of TexAppBlog.com, an appellate blog for non-appellate lawyers, and host of the Two-Minute Trial Lawyer, [https://player.fm/series/two-minute-trial-lawyer], a podcast that provides trial tips, tricks and techniques with a trial lawyer’s schedule in mind.
A graduate of the University of Houston Law Center, Mr. Carroll has the distinction of being one of the winningest advocates in the law school’s history, including a U.S. National Championship and placing 2nd in the world at the at the Willem C. Vis (Hong Kong) International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court Competition. He is a certified Texas mediator, and has a certificate from UH Law in advanced commercial arbitration.
During his tenure at UH Law, Mr. Carroll worked for the Honorable Jennifer Walker Elrod at the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Honorable Gray Miller at the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Mr. Carroll also served as a Notes & Comments Editor for the Houston Law Review, was an Executive on the Board of Advocates and the Moot Court Board, a pupil in the Garland R. Walker American Inn of Court, and served as a teaching assistant tutoring first year Torts and Constitutional Law.
Mr. Carroll continues to assist in the moot court and mock trial programs at the law center. He frequently writes papers and gives presentations
